A True Champion of Men...

Only a couple of days left now in Victoria and yes the city does grow on you. Despite the fact that for the first time in weeks, or since we have been here it is raining, a welcome sight for most as it is so dry they sure need it. For us a quick bike ride around the coast is in order. We went exploring and with the help of a local lady spotted the peak of Mt Olympia which is actually in the USA. That's how close these poor Canadians are to America, or the other way around you might say.

Terry Fox

We reached a spot called 'Mile 0' where a status has been erected of a brave young man who many years ago succumb to cancer. Terry Fox died at the youthful age of 22 years. After having his leg amputated from the knee down he took his plight and that of other cancer sufferers to the road and started on a journey to raise awareness and money. Terry embarked on a journey that any able bodied person would rarely contemplate, but off he set from Canada's east coast. Though the spread of his cancer forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his determination and example created a lasting, worldwide legacy. Terry Fox was and is the type of person who makes each and everyone of us grateful for the wonderful lives we have. Not to take anything for granted and make the best of every situation.

On to Oak Bay and further around the coast of the peninsula, where we came across some deer casually grazing in front gardens and along the road side, how wonderful a place that the wildlife can feel free to roam as they please.

Of course the time has to come Vancouver as we need to pick up some stuff stored at the hotel we first stayed at on arrival some weeks ago, then on up the coast. Ye-haw.....
